​Worthless Freedom

Worthless Freedom emerges at the crossroads of works songs and the iconography of Black women carrying it all.  Attending closely to the ways racialized labor has shaped and strained Black women’s bodies, the work asks what “freedom” means when it arrives weighted with pain, restriction, and bodily exhaustion.
